Ice fishing is a québécois tradition that Alin de Pierre practises among the white immensity of the Gouin Reservoir, accompanied by a “chum”, one hour off-piste by snowmobile from the nearest Outfitter. Pike and walleye lurk at the bottom of the lake where the water is less cold, above them the ice is 80 centimetres thick, so they only emerge when their predatory instinct rouses them from their winter torpor.
Strong Points: Travel, traditional fishing, Quebec winter.
